Pier Martel Visual Artist
Artist Statement
I grew up sensitive and attentive, absorbing experiences of the world around me, including people and their behaviours, nature, and the delicate balance of life.
Painting acts as a gateway for the emergence of a representational image formed through sensory perceptions. It operates under a single principle: the strong desire to express one of these understandings that have developed within me over time. Paintings are intended to be shared as a way of connecting with others.
As an artist, my passion is in discovering the unseen and bringing it to light. The subject only becomes clear towards the end.
I paint the wind, I paint the heat, I paint the struggle between the fish and the fisherman. I paint a vision of beauty in the landscape or the song of a bird. I paint the invisible.
My gaze constantly shifts inward. What is it like to feel the calm after the storm, or the emergence of light from the shadows of night?
